Since 2018, we have partnered with Virginia Tech's Conservation Mananegment Institute to monitor globally significant mussel beds in the Upper Tennessee River Basin of Virginia and Tennessee.  This is a continuation of research reaching back decades and involving many state and federal agencies, universities and NGOs.

We continue to work with Three Oaks Engineering and Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to understand the population dynamics of the federally endangered James spinymussel using mark-recapture models.

We are monitoring survival of federally endangered mussels moved from a construction footprint in the Clinch River using PIT (Passive Integrated Transponder) tags.  We have tracked mussel survival since 2012.  Mark-recapture models are used to assess the success of this prescribed mitigation.
